A class-action lawsuit filed July 10 by three trucking companies against Navistar-International echoes claims of similar lawsuits filed this week : The truck and engine maker knew its EGR-only MaxxForce engines had defects and Navistar concealed those problems from buyers.

The class members in the suit include anyone who bought an EGR-only MaxxForce-equipped International between and The latter causes the engine to shut down immediately, the suit says. And the engine issues caused coolant and exhaust fumes to enter the cab, causing potential for driver poisoning, the lawsuit claims.
As evidence of the alleged concealment, the lawsuit notes Navistar marketing that pushed its Advanced EGR system, its fuel economy and its resale value while calling selective catalytic reduction the aftertreatment system used at that point by all other North American manufacturers a technology that would be abandoned.
The suits also point to confidential witness testimony in lawsuits claiming Navistar violated securities laws, who say chief engineers in the company presented to former Navistar President and CEO Dan Ustian their concerns with the engines but the company proceeded with them anyhow. One time after fueling ran rough then check egine light came on. Diagnosis for egine light at TA read injectors 1 3 5 shorting. And then started saying pending. Reset it, started running fine. Carried to dealer said nothing wrong.
Some time when I ran rough I would see white smoke coming out pipes. Month month later it did same thing engine light came on. Carried to dealer they replaced turboand injector harness. After getting truck back drove miles and it did same thing. Carried it back to dealer and they said nothing was wrong and check engine was on.
Drove about miles and had fuel leak. Fuel pump was bad. They replace it. Also during this time I replaced fuel filter ever 4k it rise up then it would go down.
Everytime I replaced it it would rise up immediately after starting. The fault code that came up was I also have an active code fmi 4.
I have a k r scan guage. When I first got the truck it I did the same thing and they replaced the uv harness and injectors. Can somebody please give and idea of what might be wrong.

Maxxforce 5 is actually the smallest V-6, pre-DPF egr only engine emissions model that was discontinued years ago. Even though the ECMs look the same, they are internally different, different part numbers and not interchangeable.

I tried the local dealer, but they refuse to help, all they said was to take it to them. Appreciate all your help. Reputation: Engine probably doesn't run or runs very very poorly. From what I've found with this type of code is that an injector has a dead short and is killing a bank of injectors. Bank 2 is listed as 2, 4, 6. Although it's possible, I've never seen the injector harness fail to cause this fault.
Since a bank of injectors is being killed and the engine probably runs like crap on 3 cylinders or doesn't start at all, the easiest way to pinpoint a bad injector is to disconnect one at a time do all 6 and see if the engine will start on the remaining 5 injectors.
Once the bad injector is disconnected, the remaining 2 in the bank will operate normally. There is a procedure for ohming out each injector but doing a disconnect works just as easily especially if you don't have a breakout harness.
Thanks IROC. Is there a way to ohm, because to physically disconnect one at a time they are covered by the Jake's assembly. Pull the Jakes and disconnect each injector from the harness. Check 2, 4 and 6 first since they are grouped in that fault code.

There are only 2 wires on each injector. You should have 0. If all the injectors pass and I think at least one will fail, you then proceed to do a harness check from the ECM to the injectors.

May be a trans issue. HeavydSep 24, Its a 6 speed ultrashift. It will go into limp mode while parked, running or not. Never has quit going down the road. I would say you have a transmission fault that needs to get scanned to see what it is. Service center computer scan hasnt reveiled anything.

I noticed problem after bus was parked for fuel after a route. I fueled it up shortly after route and it took a loooong cranking cycle to start it. I'll check the oil level and see if it might be thinned by excess fuel this pm.
My thinking is low injector oil pressure at hot start but have no "puter" to verify. Where is this pressure tested with a gauge on this engine. I have two new IC's on order with a summer arrival date so I guess I better bite the bullet and order a "puter" and software. It ended up being the "pucks" for the injectors.
Fortunately for us, it was still under warranty, so the dealer took care of it. Another mechanic from another district says that they do the injector pucks at 80k regardless of if it needs it right then or not. We also have another one that has an extended crank issue and is still under warranty, but they can never find anything wrong.
The last time it was in last week they replaced the exhaust brake sensor claiming that it had excessive leaking, but that does not seem to have solved the problem either. Hope this will help you some. These charts will eliminate good components and leave you with the problem remaining. If no codes are present perform an "air management test".
This may point to problems not seen previously and log a new active code. Conditions to start include: good battery voltage at the ecm and starter, engine rpm a minimum of rpm although I like to seeengine oil pressure, oil supply to the high pressure oil pump, ICP during cranking above although spec is higher. If the egr valve is sticking open slightly hard start will occur but the engine will also have low power.
The air management test often finds this problem. Fuel pressure must be to spec for the year of engine you have. It can be measured at the test port on the intake manifold on epa through current design. Info is available at On Command service portal or by logging into www. I changed the oil fearing dilution due to diesel in the oil and bus started and ran out fine for a long period. I have ruled out dilution as an issue. I have some new findings. Bus starts as it should in the cool of the morning.
After the route engine warm bus will not restart if tried. I noticed during the restart attempt that the engine oil pressure is only building to 10psi.
Is there a check oR relief valve for the HOP reservoir as the diagnostic sheet says to check to be sure its full??? Also I have a emission light that is on. Its goes away after the oil change until the no start issue rears it head. What in the oil pressure systems is this thing reading to know to throw a light? The problems with these filters are the are causing a low fuel pressure issue. I have international maxforce. I have a low power problem and I have the engine light. Three days ago I delivered in Manitoba and it was very cold so I idled while I reset.
It never before asked me to do parked regen so yesterday after idling for 36 hours it did. It went did regen ok and stop no problem. Last coming into SD all of sudden my boost pressure went all the down so I pulled over at an exit. I read the engine codes spn fmi 4 and spn 27 and fmi 7. So I shut the truck off and started it back again. It run fine for about 10 miles but and again it did the same thing so I drove to a truck stop and parked it.
